“A Bold Plan for Lifelong Learning”

Evelyn Blunt

Submitted by: Deb Lawrence, Marian University

We are expanding on that commitment with a bold plan to increase the number of children in the NNW who can read fluently by third grade and provide educational support to everyone living in the Near Northwest.

Housed at the former Larue Carter Hospital campus, the new Riverside Education Innovation District (REID) will bring life back to this historic property and be a hub for lifelong educational attainment.

Marian has long been a leader in education, preparing teachers for the workforce and assisting K-12 schools through outreach and enrichment programs. Leaning on this strength, we will expand these programs in the NNW and work with schools, parents, guardians, community leaders, and collaborators to address the education gaps the community identifies.

As we set out on this ambitious journey, your help is needed! We will continue to listen to our neighbors about needs and barriers.

We also hired Diane Wade, a dedicated worker with the community, to support this project. She will regularly share updates in this newsletter and in other ways, so stay tuned.
