Community Builder's Corner

Evelyn Blunt

In January 2024, I will be stepping down as your Community Builder for the Near Northwest.  (I wanted to finish the easy part of this writing first, so there's that!).  I am struggling to write this because only one other time in life in an occupation have I been so moved to be of service.  Whether it was the waves of meetings where I heard your stories, learned of your concerns and joys, or saw you and your loved ones playing, interacting, or celebrating at local events. Or I helped someone connect to a resource, job, group, news, or even good food.

Nevertheless, I always wanted to make sure that I could show you that YOU mattered!   Whenever I am in service to another, I am taught to make sure "love comes first." I pray that this is how you have felt, Loved.

Many of you got in my behind about working too much, but I couldn't help it because we have so much to do.  There are so many who need our help and so many who can help that we never knew of.  My job was always to find ways to empower all of us to build more together for the things we said we wanted, and I want to thank all of you who joined that cause with me to make it so.  A lot of folks got the help they needed.  However, many didn't, so we need to keep being a good source of support by listening and then doing.  Only when you truly hear and are in the shoes of another can you be of service.

I am thankful for my time as the NNW Community Builder, with the many partners and residents who have taught me along the way.  I am not entirely leaving the community as I will still be with you all through DipIN(diabetes impact project) and with the evolution of the parks in the NNW.

As a man, I thank you for allowing me to be your Community Builder.

As your Community Builder, I thank you for trusting me to serve you.
