The Connection, The Difference, and You!

Community Builder's Corner, by Hadiah Amit

Do you remember when you knew the majority of your neighbors? Do you remember when it was easy to knock on a neighbor’s door for a “cup of sugar” or look after your home while your family was out of town? Those were the days!

It felt good to walk around your neighborhood and see the smiles of people you knew sitting out on their porches or in their yards. A time when you could walk up and chat with a friend/neighbor; when we felt connected to our neighbors and community, a people united and bonded, that worked together like a village.

As we watch our neighborhoods change, I am confident we will thrive once again, because we seek to do so together. When we come together as responsible

residents, neighbors, stakeholders, and members of our community for the betterment of us all, we gain the life force of Unity In Motion. While that same type of connection isn’t as natural as it used to be, it is the key to the quality of life we desire for our families, neighborhoods, and our community. Would you agree?

Being intentional about creating that connection again, is something we all can do. Here in the Near Northwest Area, we have our Sunday Suppers, neighborhood associations, community committees, activities, and events all around the community, like the annual Riverside Parade, Live@Cleo's artist showcases, Watkins Park summer camps, Indy Shakes, and the Taggart Memorial Shows, Historical Promenade and Black Joy Festivals - all to connect us.

Tap into your neighborhood, your community, your village - we welcome you! Connect with us at nwqol2020@gmail.com to learn how to be the difference, and then invite a neighbor. Subscribe to our community newsletter - NNW Exchange. Visit our website nearnorthwest.com

We look forward to seeing you at the next event or community meeting, where your presence and participation make all the difference.
