Why FAFSA?

Submitted by: Tamesha Allen

Have you completed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) yet? If not, now would be a great time before the April 15th deadline!

Applying for federal funding may seem intense, however, it’s actually not. FAFSA is one of the best ways to receive assistance with college expenses. Scholars can reap several benefits for applying:

1.) It’s FREE! There are no service charges, processing fees, or other additional costs associated with your application.

2.) Seek Financial Aid Experts for Help! There are individuals who are ready to serve student(s) and/or their parent(s) with the application. Visit your school’s financial aid office for more information.

3.) It’s Quick! Filing an application does not take long. All applicants are required to provide the following information (additional documentation may apply):

Income tax returns

W-2 forms

1099 for the previous two years

Social Security Card

Drivers License, and/or alien registration card if you are not a U.S. citizen.

Bank statements, IRAs, Pensions, Disability information, Child Support (if applicable).

All monies are sent directly to the school. Students are advised to wait 5-7 business days for the FAFSA to be sent to the school’s financial aid office - and before checking the status for eligibility.

It’s as simple as 1….2….3!!
